Apple Increases iPhone Repair Costs $20+ Across the Board

Just a day after unveiling its latest and greatest iPhone models, Apple has updated its website to reflect the most current iPhone repair and replacement pricing costs.

While it was previously expensive to get your iPhone’s screen replaced, or an outright replacement if it’s deemed damaged beyond repair, it unfortunately just got a bit pricier according to Apple’s updated iPhone Service Pricing webpage, a snippet of which can be viewed below.

Screen Repair

To repair models like the iPhone 5, 5s, 5c, SE and iPhone 6 which previously cost just $99 for a screen repair service, now cost an additional $30, bringing the total to $129 for the same screen repair. Similarly, the cost of an iPhone 6s or iPhone 7 screen repair has gone up $20 to $149, while the cost of fixing the screen on any iPhone Plus model has likewise gone up by $20 to $169.

Screen repair pricing for the iPhone X hasn’t been listed yet, but if the device’s AppleCare+ premium is any indication, we could easily be looking at $200, $250, or even more to repair the iPhone X’s massive OLED display.

‘Other Damage’

Technically speaking, Apple defines “other damage” as damage that is significant enough to warrant a full replacement, but caused by factors other than a technical malfunction or defect. For the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, at least, it appears that the price of an outright replacement has gone up by about $20, while the swanky new iPhone 8 and 8 Plus cost the absolute highest to replace out of any iPhone model ever at $349 and $399, respectively.

It may appear as if Apple is merely out to line its pockets with these latest price hikes, however it’s worth noting that the cost of components has been rising substantially, according to Tim Cook. And so, while the price of AppleCare+ and certain iPhone services has gone up, accordingly, we have to admit that it’s somewhat justifiable amid today’s highly-inflated economic landscape.

Besides that, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, in particular, are marvels in engineering, boasting innovations galore and crafted of the highest-quality materials. And so, if the investment is worth the price, perhaps you’ll be willing to shell out a couple extra ten-spots to protect it, right? Either that, or at the least make sure your next case is iron-clad.

Additionally, earlier this week the company announced that its AppleCare+ protection plan for all iPhone Plus models will be increasing to $149 from $129, while AppleCare+ for the high-end iPhone X has been set at a wallet-hurting $199.
