Apple’s new iMac Pro is slated to launch this month, but we’re still not sure exactly when it will drop. Since introducing the computer in June, Apple has remained fairly quiet about its release.
Of course, if you’ve Googled “iMac Pro release date” or have checked the device’s Wikipedia page recently, you might have a firmer idea in mind of its official launch date.
Reportedly, Googling the iMac Pro’s release date sometime in the last month or so may have resulted in a firm date: the 18th of December. Similarly, the Wikipedia page for the workstation-class desktop also lists its official launch date as Dec. 18. Social media users have reported the Dec. 18 date as far back as Nov. 11.
Overall, this date would make sense. It’s the week before Christmas, and would allow Apple an opportunity to ramp up its Mac computer sales through the end of the year and into 2018.
Just been on google and it says the iMac pro is being released on the 18th December but Apple hasn’t said anything about it

iMac Pro Release Date
Of course, if you google “iMac Pro release date” now, you’ll find a much vaguer (and possibly more accurate) result of “December 2017.” As of the writing of this article, the Wikipedia page release date is still unchanged. Google and Wikipedia may know something that the rest of us don’t, but the fact that the Google search result has been rectified makes the rumor a bit sketchy.
Similarly, since Google tailors search results dependent on your device’s location, the results may also change according to where you are. The picture below, which was screenschotted recently, has its date in standard UK format, for example.
Of course, it’s also certainly possible that Google’s search crawlers saw the “December” release date next to “18 cores” on Apple’s website, and jumped to a faulty conclusion. On that note, it’s also possible that the Wikipedia page was edited to match the latest “accurate” information from Google (or vice versa).
Whether it comes out on Dec. 18 or not, the iMac Pro will be the most “powerful Mac ever made.”
iMac Pro Specs and Price
The basic configuration of the workstation-class desktop will feature an integrated 27-inch, 5K display, 8-core Xeon processor, AMD Radeon Vega graphics, 32GB of ECC RAM (customizable up to 128GB), a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, and a variety of other professional-grade features.
The iMac Pro will also feature a coprocessor version of Apple’s A10 chip, which could allow for always-on “Hey, Siri” and could handle certain processes like security and boot. It’ll pack up 1TB of internal storage (which is configurable up to 2TB or 4TB). If 8 cores aren’t enough, the iMac Pro will come in a 10- or 18-core configuration.
While we’re not still sure what day in December Apple’s most powerful Mac will drop, we know that it will come out this month. The iMac Pro will start at $4,999 for the basic setup.
