New Updates to Facebook’s iOS App Make Buying Show Tickets, Ordering Food, and Booking Reservations Easy

Facebook has ushered a slew of new features into its iOS app that have rolled out in the US this week. Now, Facebook’s mobile app users can order food, buy movie and concert tickets, and reserve appointments with local businesses without having to leave the platform.

Facebook has partnered with the likes of Fandango, Ticketmaster, and Eventbrite for movie, concert, and event ticket purchases on the platform. The social network has also brought Delivery.com and Slice on board to enable in-app ticket food orders. Local businesses can sign on to have an appointment booking feature integrated into their business pages. The feature allows potential customers to scroll through their services and set a reservation at a specific time. Once the appointment is accepted, users will receive confirmation via Facebook Messenger. Some local business Pages will also feature a “Get Quote” button at the top that allows users to request quotes for various services and offerings.

The iOS app update also brings the Recommendations feature to mobile. The app now automatically detects whenever you post a request to your friends and family for suggestions and advice on good restaurants, hair salons, etc. in your area. It then takes all the recommendations in the comments and compiles them into a list as well as a map.

Finally, Facebook has revamped the Events bookmark on the app, allowing you to track your friends’ event activities and browse recommended local events.

Facebook’s plan is to eventually have its platform become the go-to destination for planning everyday activities and social events, by streamlining interactions between customers and businesses. The company also asked users to keep their eyes peeled for more updates and features in the coming months: “This is the first step, and over the coming months we’ll be launching even more new features that will make it easier to get things done, make confident decisions and communicate directly with businesses on your time and terms.”
