Thanks to a flurry of leaks and teasers the past week, we’re finally getting a good look at Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S8 flagship.
Just a few days ago, Samsung caused quite the buzz in the mobile phone world when it released an ad meant to show off its new AMOLED displays. In addition to the screen tech, the ad also shows off an unreleased smartphone that’s nearly bezel-free with no home button — and there’s a good chance that it’s the Galaxy S8, Ubergizmo reported.
Those teaser ads closely followed a trio of leaks that depicted a phone nearly identical to the alleged Galaxy S8 in Samsung’s ads. The renders, released by case manufacturers MobileFun and Ghostek, and news site Slashleaks, show off a similar design with very slim bezels. Other changes include a move to USB Type-C and a reposition of the flash and heart rate sensor to above the S8’s camera. Interestingly, all the renders seem to indicate that the S8 will retain a headphone jack, according to Forbes.
And today, GSM Arena posted a pair of blueprints that detail the exact dimensions of Samsung’s two new flagship models. The first of the blueprints seem to specify the dimensions of the larger S8 — expected to be dubbed the S8 Plus. The S8 Plus will apparently be slightly larger than the S7 Edge, but will pack on a screen that’s over 6.3-inches wide (due to the sides being curved). The smaller S8 carries a similar design. If the specs are correct, it’ll have a larger 5.7-inch screen while still being around the same size of the S7 Edge — which had a 5.5-inch display.
While the design shown off in the leaks is obviously subject to change, there’s a good chance that we’re seeing the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus in their near-final form. In any case, 2017 is looking like it’ll turn out to be the year that the large bezel died — since Apple is reportedly looking to radically redesign its 10th anniversary iPhone flagship with an almost bezel-less and home button-free design.
