Over the weekend, a trove of key details about Apple’s impending iPhone devices began circulating the web, in what BBC News independently confirmed was an internal leak of URLs containing code for the company’s iOS 11 golden master (GM) software build.
As syndicated Apple blogger, John Gruber, noted, “more surprises were spoiled by this leak than any leak in Apple history,” suggesting that the information, which most notably included that the iPhone 7s, 7s Plus and 8 will actually be called the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X, respectively, is the biggest of its kind to hit the Cupertino-company ever.
“Someone within Apple leaked the list of URLs [to 9to5mac],” Gruber continued, while adding that “I’m nearly certain this wasn’t a mistake, but rather a deliberate malicious act by a rogue Apple employee.”
While noteworthy iPhone X and iPhone 8 details had leaked courtesy of Apple’s previous HomePod hi-jinx, some of Twitter’s most notorious iOS developers were able to further confirm a bevy of game-changing details about the flagships in the latest leak — not only confirming some of our previous sentiments, but collectively hint that the iPhones we’ll see on stage tomorrow are going to be Apple’s most impressive yet.
