Amazon and Whole Foods recently announced a set of discounts on popular grocery items in anticipation of the holidays, slashing prices on select organic turkeys to $3.49 per pound and no antibiotic turkeys to $2.49 per pound.
Prime members, on the other hand, can pay significantly less for the two items– $2.99 per pound and $1.99 per pound respectively. Beyond Thanksgiving items, the discounts also apply to a bunch of best-selling products a range of brands including Whole Foods’ in-house Organic 365 brand, Chobani Yogurt, California Olive Ranch EVOO, and eggs and milk from Organic Valley.
The announcement speaks to the ongoing efforts to further integration between the two companies and give customers a greater incentive to sign up for an Amazon Prime membership.
“These are the latest new lower prices in our ongoing integration and innovation with Amazon, and we’re just getting started,” said John Mackey, Whole Foods Market co-founder and CEO. “In the few months we’ve been working together, our partnership has proven to be a great fit. We’ll continue to work closely together to ensure we’re consistently surprising and delighting our customers while moving toward our goal of reaching more people with Whole Foods Market’s high-quality, natural, and organic food.”
In the future, Amazon plans to leverage its $13.7 billion acquisition of the popular grocery store chain in order to reward its Prime members with even deeper savings.
Prime members who want to take advantage of this year’s holiday discounts should go to Amazon’s website and print out a coupon to present to the cashier at checkout. You can even reserve discounted turkeys ahead of time before heading to the store. If you’re a Prime member who has already bought a turkey, you can return to Whole Foods with the coupon for store credit.
