Credible New Report Claims Samsung Will Release a ‘Jet Black’ Galaxy S7 Next Month

According to a recent report published in the popular Korean journal The Investor, Samsung is reportedly gearing up to release a glossy black — think ‘Jet Black’ iPhone 7 — variant of its equally popular Galaxy S7 flagship smartphone within the next few weeks.

The move marks a swift yet unsurprising departure from traditional smartphone refresh patterns — particularly seeing as how the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have been on the market for well over nine-months now. However, releasing a device in a new color mid-cycle like this is not new for Samsung. The South Korean tech-giant, unlike Apple, tends to release new color options of middle-aged products all the time — whereas Apple, on the other hand, traditionally will reveal a new color option only when a product initially launches. (We’ve seen this with the company’s Rose Gold color, for instance, which first debuted as an iPhone 6s offering back in September 2015.)

Of course, Samsung, in its honest, unabashed defense, seems to believe wholeheartedly that the company needs to launch a ‘Jet Black’ variant of its popular 2016 flagship — even if just to compete with the otherwise impressive demand for Apple’s similarly-toned iPhone 7.

Interestingly enough, much like Apple with its two-variant black iPhone 7 strategy, Samsung appears to be aligning itself to compete with Apple on the same, two-color sales model. Apple currently offers both a high-gloss Jet Black color option, as well as a softer, subtler, no-polish Matte Black option. Samsung, as it stands, offers its Galaxy S7 in what the company calls an Onyx Black color — and so, by bringing an even glossier, shinier ‘Jet Black’ color option to the table, Samsung is hoping to capture some of the Jet Black craze popularized by Cupertino’s iPhone.

“Together with the Onyx Black with a matte finish, Samsung aims to take on the hot-selling variants of Apple’s iPhone 7 — the shiny Jet Black and the Matte Black,” according to the report.

We’ll have to wait a bit to see exactly how Samsung fares with their whole “Jet Black Galaxy” initiative — namely, will it be quite the slam-dunk success that the South Korean tech-giant is forecasting? Only time will tell.

Would a Jet Black S7 be tempting enough for you to make the switch to Android?
