Apple’s Base Model ‘iPhone X’ Will Feature 64 GB of Storage, iPhone 7s to Retain 32 GB

Apple has a penchant for hitting its customers where it often hurts the most — right smack dab in their wallets, especially when it comes to upgrading our iPhones and iPads to a higher storage capacity. In fact, up until the release of its most recent iPhone, Apple’s base-model storage had been locked in at a paltry 16 GB since the iPhone 5 debuted way back in 2012. And, heavens forbid you ever wanted to upgrade to 32 GB — or even 64 GB — Apple has somehow been able to charge a $100 or $200 ransom, just to level the playing field for the more gigabyte-hungry users among us.

When you really think about, 16 GB — and, for that matter, even 32 GB — is hardly a lot of storage in the first place, especially when you have to factor in the pre-installed iOS system files, software, and apps. Add in a couple hundred images and music playlists later, most of us are bound to reach the limits of storage afforded us. Moreover, with similarly spec’d-out Android handsets coming to market with at least 64 GB of storage, wouldn’t it only make sense that Apple eventually follow suit?

According to a report issued earlier this week by TrendForce, Apple’s forthcoming ‘iPhone X’ flagship will be the first iPhone to feature 64 GB of storage as a base-model offering.  At long last, albeit on the company’s most expensive iPhone ever to hit store shelves, Apple will be upping the device’s base storage capacity to a whopping 64 GB. What’s more, the next “level up” for that same device (costing an additional, undisclosed amount of money) will reportedly boast 256 GB of storage.

Unfortunately, TrendForce’s report, which cites unnamed supply chain sources, also alleges that Apple’s other two ‘iPhone 7s’ and ‘iPhone 7s Plus’ offerings will retain the same 32 GB of base storage as their predecessors. This would be an odd move for Apple, not only because most users can easily burn through those gigabytes in no-time at all, but also because, well, it’s 2017 — and our hunger for digital content isn’t getting any leaner, right?

As far as the ‘iPhone X’ is pertinent, it only makes sense that Apple would sweeten the pot for those willing to adopt the $1,000+ flagship. Not only will the ‘iPhone X’ boast more storage as a base-model offering, but the device will also be outfitted with a laundry list of features and technological advancements over its ‘iPhone 7s’ siblings, including wireless charging, IP68 water- and dust-proof certification, an advanced 3D camera set up, and so much more — all packed within an all-glass and stainless steel reinforced chassis, according to famed KGI Securities analyst, Ming Chi Kuo.
