‘Carpool Karaoke: The Series’ Debuts on Apple Music This August

Apple’s first original television series, “Carpool Karaoke,” will debut on Apple Music in early August, the company announced today in a press release.

“Carpool Karaoke: The Series” will feature a wide range of celebrity pairs buckling up, singing songs, and undoubtedly having some entertaining discussions. The first season will feature 16 thirty-minute episodes, each with a different host and guest, ranging from Shakira and Trevor Noah to Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams. New episodes will premiere exclusively to Apple Music subscribers on Tuesdays.

Apple’s version of Carpool Karaoke is based on the viral segment of The Late Late Show with James Corden. Apple bought the rights to the show last year and released the first trailer for the series in February (it was originally set to debut in April, but has since been delayed). And while Apple will stream its version of the show solely to Apple Music subscribers, Carpool Karaoke will continue to be a recurring segment on The Late Late Show. Additionally, James Corden will serve as a producer for the Apple series and will also appear in several episodes.

In addition to being Apple’s first TV series, the spin-off is also part of a larger effort by the company to revitalize its streaming service. Cupertino is expected to bring a wide range of original video content to Apple Music when iOS 11 rolls out, including Carpool Karaoke and a Shark Tank-like show for app developers hosted by will.i.am, appropriately named “Planet of the Apps”.

“Carpool Karaoke: The Series” will be available to Apple Music subscribers in over 100 countries starting Tuesday, August 8.
