iPhone 8 Case Shows Size Comparison Between iPhone 7 and 7 Plus

A protective case that was allegedly designed for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8 flagship surfaced earlier this week on Alibaba, at which point it was almost immediately scooped up by the popular Japanese blog, Macotokara, who subsequently put the case through a series of thoughtful comparisons — complete with a short YouTube video that’s viewable below — of the relative size disparity between Apple’s yet-to-be-announced flagship and its iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus predecessors.

While we’ve previously seen our fair share of iPhone 8 case leaks, which have all but confirmed the handset’s expected new design and feature arrangement, what truly sets the Macotokara leaks apart is that the blogger compares and contrasts the iPhone 8 case with iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus — offering, for the very first time, a thorough view of the iPhone 8’s size in relation to that of Apple’s existing iPhone models. The photos, assuming their legitimacy, also give us a clearer look at where the iPhone 8 will fit into Apple’s existing iPhone lineup.

One thing that clearly stands out in the images is what rumors have been suggesting for the last several months: that Apple’s iPhone 8 will embody a footprint not much larger than the iPhone 7 — albeit smaller in both width and height than the iPhone 7 Plus. What’s more, even despite its seemingly “middle-field” position in Apple’s lineup, the iPhone 8 is expected to be amassed almost entirely by a nearly edge-to-edge OLED display, which according to rumors could measure in at a whopping 5.8-inches, as well as a Touch ID sensor mounted underneath the front display glass.

What can also be seen, as was previously hinted at, too, is the iPhone 8 will not be much wider than the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 — despite being slightly taller, as you can see below, and noticeably thicker, according to Macotokara. Recently leaked schematics suggest that the iPhone 8 could measure in at 144 mm tall x 71 mm wide x 7.7 mm thick — in comparison to the iPhone 7’s footprint of 138.3 mm tall x 67.1 mm wide x 7.1 mm thick.

Aesthetically, the iPhone 8 case also appears to have a cutout designed for the vertically mounted dual-lens camera system — a feature exclusive to the iPhone 8, which was first rumored by iDrop News back in March when it was revealed that the high-end flagship could also be called the iPhone Edition.

Nevertheless, we highly recommend taking this comparison with a grain of salt until further notice, especially seeing as how Apple has been actively testing multiple iPhone 8 prototypes in the wild. Therefore, which model will ultimately enter mass-production is anyone’s guess at this point.
