How to Download WhatsApp on iPad and iPod touch

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps for iPhone that boasts more than a billion active users per month. You can share text messages, send and receive photos, videos, and voice messages, place voice calls and much more.

Since WhatsApp requires users to enter their mobile number for activation, the app is made available for iPhone only. If you wish to use it on iPad or iPod touch, then you’re out of luck.

Although you cannot install the official app of WhatsApp on your iPad or iPod touch, there are alternative methods. One way involves using WhatsApp Web. As the name implies, WhatsApp Web allows you to use a browser to connect to your WhatsApp account and chat from there. In this way, you can use Safari to load WhatsApp Web on your iPad and start chatting with your friends.

In this tutorial, we’ll show you three different methods of using WhatsApp on iPhone or iPad touch.

1 Using WhatsApp Web

Step 1: Open Safari on your iPad and go to web.whatsapp.com

Step 2: Once the page loads, you’ll notice that you’re forcefully redirected to the mobile home page of WhatsApp. To avoid this, tap and hold on the refresh icon in the URL bar. From the menu that opens, choose Request Desktop Site.

Step 3: The page for WhatsApp Web will now be displayed along with a QR code which you have to scan using your iPhone to connect to your WhatsApp account. Open WhatsApp on your iPhone and go to the Settings section of the app.

Step 4: Tap on WhatsApp Web/Desktop. Now use your iPhone to scan the QR code that is shown on your iPad.

Step 5: On your iPad, the page will reload automatically and connect to your WhatsApp account to display all your conversations.

You can now use WhatsApp on your iPad to send and receive messages from friends and family. Since you’re accessing WhatsApp via the browser, there are certain restrictions. You cannot send voice messages. notifications for new messages will not appear, and you may get logged out randomly.

2 Using a Third-Party App for WhatsApp Web

Accessing WhatsApp via Safari or any other browser isn’t as convenient. Fortunately, there are a couple of apps on the App Store that wrap WhatsApp Web into a native app for iPad. One such app is called Chat for Whatsapp. It works quite nicely and can even send push notifications to your iPad. In case you don’t like this app, there’s another one called Messenger for WhatsApp.

3 Using WhatsPad++

If you wish to get all the features of WhatsApp on your iPad, then you should check out an unofficial WhatsApp app for iPad called WhatsPad++. It allows you to use all the features of WhatsApp on your iPad as if you were using it on your iPhone.

While the app isn’t available on the App Store, you can install it on your iPad using a software called Cydia Impactor. This process is called sideloading and allows unsigned apps to be installed on iOS devices.

  • Note: when you sideload apps using a normal Apple ID, they will expire after 7 days, after which you’ll have to reinstall them using Cydia Impactor. Those with a developer Apple ID can have the app for 1 year before it expires.

Here’s how you can install WhatsPad++ on your iPad:

Step 1: On your computer, download WhatsPad++ and Cydia Impactor.

Step 2: Connect your iPad to your computer, then open Cydia Impactor.

Step 3: Drag and drop the WhatsPad++ file onto Cydia Impactor.

Step 4: You’ll be prompted to enter your Apple ID and password, which is used to sign and the install the app onto your iPad.

Step 5: Once you’ve entered your Apple ID credentials, Cydia Impactor will begin installing WhatsPad++ onto your iPad. Once done, you should see the WhatsApp icon on your iPad’s Home screen.

Step 6: Now go to Settings > General > Profiles.

Step 7: Open the profile labeled with your Apple ID, then press the Trust button.

Step 8: Now go to the Home screen and open WhatsApp.

That’s it! You can now use all the features of WhatsApp on your iPad without any restrictions. The app looks and functions exactly the same as the original WhatsApp. You can share messages, photos, videos, and voice messages, view statuses, make voice calls, and much more.

These are the different methods of using WhatsApp on your iPad. If you prefer to go with the safest option, then you should use the official WhatsApp Web via Safari. The other methods require you to use third-party apps which may or may not be safe.
