Apple to Produce an Abundance of Original TV Content Exclusively for Apple TV, Expected to Debut This Year

Published this week in The Wall Street Journal, a new report alleges that Apple is not only in the process of working to secure loads of original television content to air exclusively on the company’s self-branded TV set-top box, but sources familiar with Apple’s dealings indicated that we — the customers — could very well see some of this content debut on the Apple TV by as early as the end of this year.

Apple apparently cited dwindling iPad sales as a factor in its decision to go ahead with producing original content — television shows, according to the report, that will rival similar, original content offerings from the likes of Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon — all of whom have had wild success in their quests to deliver entertaining, “feel-good” content to customers.

According to the report, Cook and company are already talking with major Hollywood producers, veteran, entertainment industry marketing executives, and other key players, as well. What’s not exactly clear at this point, however, is if Cupertino is planning to directly compete with companies like Netflix and Hulu — or if the Silicon Valley tech-giant merely wants to “test the waters,” so to speak, determined to see if it has what it takes to capture the hearts of audiences. Ironically enough, according to sources familiar with the company’s plans, original content produced by Apple will — at least to start off — be comparable to shows like Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” as well as Amazon’s “Westworld,” and “The Man in the High Castle.”

As with anything Apple sets out to do, the company is apparently thinking big on the content front, too. While smaller TV shows and mini-series will be the epitome of the company’s content endeavors, sources also indicate that Apple is even considering full-length feature film production somewhere down the line.

What kinds of shows would you like to see Apple produce for the Apple TV?
