Apple on Wednesday launched its latest special edition Beats lineup, the result of a collaboration with French design house Balmain. The new collection features special edition versions of Apple’s Powerbeats 3 Wireless Earphones and Beats Studio Wireless Headphones.
The lineup is available in two colors: a pinkish tone with gold accents called “Safari,” and a green and gold tinted scheme called “Khaki.” Both colors are inspired by the idea of an “urban safari,” according to the Beats website. Notably, the marketing for the lineup prominently features reality TV star Kylie Jenner, who also shared a photograph of herself wearing a pair of the headphones on her Instagram page.
“Both Beats by Dr. Dre and Balmain are connected by a love for music, fashion and culture,” the collection’s landing page reads. “It’s with this very connection that our unique partnership was born. A shared belief that without the diversity that music brings us, our world would be nothing. Music is the thread that connects us all, allowing us to dream, and giving us a way to escape.”
It’s not the first time that Apple has partnered with a high-profile fashion label for its Beats headphones. Previous collaborations include special editions created with American designer Alexander Wang and Italian luxury fashion house Fendi. For their partnership, Balmain’s designer and creative director, Oliver Rousteing, told Vogue that he first connected with members of the Beats team about four years ago. “What they love about Balmain is that I embrace music. We’ve always had an idea of making something happen together,” he told the publication.
The special edition lineup is currently available to order. Prices start at $249.95 for the Powerbeats 3 earphones and $599.95 for the Beats Studio headphones. It’s worth noting that the Safari color is available to purchase directly from Apple, while the Khaki color scheme is only available from Balmain.
