Apple has teamed up with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson for a quirky short film alongside a prominent co-star: Apple’s own digital assistant, Siri.
The Rock x Siri Dominate the Day, which clocks in at just under 4 minutes, debuted Monday on Apple’s website and the company’s official YouTube channel. It is, for all intents and purposes, an action-packed and tongue-in-cheek promotional spot showing off the range of capabilities and functions that Siri can handle. You can view the film in its entirety below.
“You should never, ever, under any circumstances, underestimated how much Dwayne Johnson can get done in a day with Siri. Follow the world’s busiest actor and Siri as they dominate the day,” the short film’s description reads. The quirky action short was first teased by Johnson on Sunday, who tweeted a poster for the film. The actor also described the movie as the “biggest, coolest, craziest, dopest, most over the top, funnest” movie ever in a Facebook post, adding that Siri was “the greatest co-star of all time.”
This isn’t the first time that Apple has teamed up with someone in show business to produce a short film. Late last month, the company shared another short created by French director Michel Gondry — perhaps best known for indie hits The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Science of Sleep. That 11-minute movie, titled Détour, was filmed entirely on an iPhone. Apple itself is no stranger to award-winning ad spots, and is fairly well-known for its oftentimes clever and sentimental marketing.
The Johnson and Siri short closely follows the announcement of iOS 11, which adds additional features and functionalities to the digital assistant, and HomePod, a completely new standalone platform for Siri aimed at the smart home market. With both releases looming, it stands to reason that Apple is focusing some of its marketing efforts on promoting its proprietary personal assistant.
