Apple on Monday seeded the fourth iOS 11 developer beta, two weeks after releasing iOS 11 beta 3 and just about a month and a half after introducing the next-generation operating system at its Worldwide Developers Conference.
What’s New in iOS 11 Developer Beta 4
The new beta version fixes a variety of bugs and problems, including 3D Touch glitches. It also resolves a variety of issues with third-party apps like Tencent Video, Pinterest, VSCO and Citi Mobile, and fixes AirPlay functionality in others.
iOS 11 beta 4 also introduces some new visual and UI touches, including slightly redesigned icons for the Notes, Contacts and Reminders apps, as well as new informational splash pages for Notes and Photos.
In addition, Apple has added a “Touch ID to open” prompt when swiping left on a notification and the ability to view or clear notifications when swiping right, similar to how older versions of iOS handled notifications.
There’s also a countdown UI for the built-in screen recorder and a new animation when toggling Low Power Mode in the Control Center.
Apple also resolved some issues with 32-bit apps — and added that beta 4 is the last iOS 11 beta that will be able to run 32-bit apps at all. While the new beta does fix a wide range of problems, it also introduces a few known issues.
iOS 11 will introduce a slew of new features and capabilities to Apple’s operating system, including a revamped and customizable Control Center and Lock screen. There’s also peer-to-peer payment support for Apple Pay in Messages, a new Do Not Disturb While Driving mode, and a variety of additional improvements and features for Siri, Photos and Camera. iOS 11 also marks the debut of ARKit, a powerful toolset that will allow developers to create a wide variety of augmented reality apps, as well as loosened restrictions on iOS’s NFC capabilities.
The fourth iOS 11 beta is currently available as an over-the-air download for registered developers, and is also available from the Apple Developer portal. For public software testers, Apple usually rolls out a public version of new betas a few days after the developer rollout.
