Apple Launches New Repair Program for iPhone 6s Devices Plagued By Faulty Battery Issue

Just a few short days after announcing a new repair program for customers beset by the company’s now infamous iPhone 6 “Touch Disease” debacle, Apple on Monday morning announced yet another repair program — this one covering iPhone 6s users whose devices have spontaneously shut down on them, even despite having sufficient battery life remaining on tap.

We first reported on this emerging and still-developing issue early last week. However, much to the delight of disgruntled users, it appears that Apple has gone ahead and addressed what it believes to be the issue causing some iPhone 6s handsets to spontaneously shut down.

While Cupertino alleges that this newly discovered battery flaw “plagues a very small number of iPhone 6s devices” — namely, those manufactured between September and October of 2015, the company also extended an olive branch to affected customers — offering to replace the battery on their units, free of charge.

And, as you might imagine, Apple was also quick to point out that this issue is in no way a “safety issue.”

“Apple has determined that a very small number of iPhone 6s devices may unexpectedly shut down. This is not a safety issue and only affects devices within a limited serial number range that were manufactured between September and October 2015,” the company stated. “If you have experienced this issue, please visit an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider and have your device’s serial number checked to confirm eligibility for a battery replacement, free of charge.”

Apple has advised all iPhone 6s users who think their device is plagued by this issue to visit their nearest Apple retail store (or Apple-authorized retailer) to see if they qualify.

Of course, remember to keep in mind that if your device is also plagued by other forms of damage — including water or drop damage, for example — you will unfortunately not be eligible for a free battery replacement, as pursuant with the standard terms of Apple’s warranty.
