iPhone 7 Plus owners know that high quality images are only a snap away. Until yesterday, however, there was no way for them to scan high quality images of their old photo albums and Polaroids conveniently. To address this issue, Google has launched PhotoScan, an app that helps you digitize your old collection of physical photos by simply scanning them with your iPhone’s camera.
The app is straightforward and intuitive. Users simply need to place the photo they want to scan on a flat surface away from glare and snap four separate pictures of it. The app will direct you to four different parts of the picture that you need to photograph. PhotoScan takes over from there, stitching them together into one high-resolution image, removing glare and improving the quality of the scans.
PhotoScan also automatically detects the edges of the photo, straightens it, and rotates it to correct the orientation. It takes only 15 seconds on average to use PhotoScan, quite the feat for a free app as impressive as this one. Afterwards, you can save the scanned photo to Google Photos, where you can organize, search, edit, enhance, and share images.
This impressive app is now available to download for free here, on Android and iOS.
