A trove of images (complete with an accompanying YouTube video) surfaced over the weekend, allegedly showing what’s said to be a tempered glass screen protector designed exclusively for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8 flagship, according to various accounts from Chinese social networking site, Weibo, and shared by reliable leak aggregation site Slashleaks.
The protector, according to its description, is said to be made for Apple’s 5.8-inch, OLED display-equipped iPhone 8, and features a design that lines up beautifully with multiple reports on the footprint of Apple’s forthcoming, top-tier iPhone. As you can see from the images, the screen protector features remarkably thin bezels around the entire perimeter of the display, as well as what appears to be a front-facing sensor bar that will likely house the device’s earpiece, sensor array, and Apple’s revolutionary new, front-facing 3D camera system.
Dubbed “Olixar iPhone 8 Full Cover Tempered Glass Screen Protector,” which according to U.K.-based mobile accessory seller, MobileFun, will retail for $31.99, the casing will support full 3D Touch capabilities while providing edge-to-edge protection for the iPhone 8’s massive screen. Interestingly, however: the glass protector is said to be of the 2.5D variety, meaning it will boast slightly curved edges similar to the iPhone 6s and iPhone 7. If true, that would all but confirm previous reports that the iPhone 8’s OLED display will not curve substantially around the edges of the device as they do on Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and S8+, for example.

The leaks further confirm multiple other reports of the iPhone 8’s design, including those spearheaded by iDrop News’ inside source, Benjamin Geskin, in his thoughtful rendition of what we believe could be dubbed the iPhone Edition. Even more interestingly, in a separate post that was shared this morning by leak aggregation site, Slashleaks, it’s claimed that the iPhone 8 might actually be called the iPhone “Decade Edition” to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Apple’s iconic device. Given that this name has never before been mentioned in any leak, rumor, or report, however, we would highly recommend taking that with a heaping grain of salt until further notice.
While it was previously rumored that the iPhone 8 could instead be dubbed the iPhone Edition — which would be consistent with Apple’s naming schemes for other devices like Apple Watch Edition, for example; and while other reports indicated the device could be dubbed iPhone X (also to commemorate the iPhone’s 10th anniversary), it’s important to note that we more than likely won’t know what the high-end device will be called until much later on this fall when it’s officially unveiled on stage. In the meantime, be sure to check out the YouTube video showcasing this tempered glass display cover for yourself.
