Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8 flagship will be available in as many as four color options, including an all-new ‘mirror-like’ polished silver finish. The revelation comes to us courtesy of a Tweet published over the weekend by iPhone concept artist, Benjamin Geskin, who cites unnamed sources with knowledge of Apple’s imminent plans. Geskin had previously leaked a plethora of information about the high-end iPhone 8 exclusively with iDrop News earlier this year, where it was alleged the upcoming device could instead be called the iPhone Edition.
While details about the mirrored silver color option are scant at this time, Geskin suggests it will look somewhat akin to the rear, mirrored glass finish that ornamented Apple’s older iPod devices. As opposed to the iPod models of old, however, the iPhone 8’s mirror finish will allegedly wrap all the way around the sides of the handset’s stainless-steel chassis, ultimately touching up against (and perhaps even curving around) the edges of the handset’s ultra thin-bezeled OLED display.
Geskin’s Tweet comes hot off the heels of a report from the well-connected KGI Securities analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, who noted in his recent research note that the iPhone 8 would be available in “fewer color options” than its iPhone 7s and 7s Plus counterparts, which will allow Apple to distinguish the high-end flagship as a “boutique” offering this year. In previous research notes, the historically accurate Kuo had also suggested that the iPhone 8 could be available in the same Jet Black option as the iPhone 7, as well as an all-new ‘Jet White’ color, however the latter of those has yet to be corroborated by any other rumors or reports, so we suggest taking it with a grain of salt at least for now.
If Geskin’s claims of a mirror-like color option are true, it remains unclear what the fourth color could be. Somewhat obvious possibilities could be a polished Yellow or Rose Gold color similar in hue to the polished Apple logos emblazoned on the rear-side of recent Gold and Rose Gold iPhones. In the past, iPhone 8 renders have surfaced in both Jet Black and ‘Jet White’ colors, and so it’s looking more and more plausible that those will be among the offerings. The iPhone 7s and 7s Plus, meanwhile, will likely continue being offered in the same Silver, Gold, Rose Gold, Matte Black and Jet Black colors as the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.
Geskin’s revelation comes just a few days prior to the release of a new YouTube video from UnboxTherapy, in which the YouTuber showcases what’s alleged to be an iPhone 8 prototype that was produced based on dimensions from the factory. You can see the video below, which offers us perhaps one of the clearest, most detailed glimpses of the device we’ve seen to date.
