Samsung Might Have Leaked the Galaxy Note 8 on Twitter

A Samsung-owned Twitter account may have leaked the first image of the Galaxy Note 8 to come from the company itself. Specifically, the official Samsung account for its lineup of chips tweeted an image early Thursday showing off its new Exynos 8895 processor. But while the chip may have been the focus of the tweet, it’s the device that the chip is lying on that’s causing a stir on social media. You can see the tweet below.

At first glance, it looks like Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8. But upon closer inspection, the render in the photo has some differences — chief among them, the fact that the top bezel of the unknown device is squared off, rather than having a rounded edge like the S8. That fact alone has people asking if the image is an in-house render of the upcoming phablet. In fact, the mystery device’s super-slim top bezel does bear a resemblance to a leaked image of the Galaxy Note 8 that surfaced online a few days ago, which also featured a squared-off bezel.

Of course, there are some caveats to take into account. For one, the device lacks any side buttons, which could suggest that it’s simply a generic shell, rather than an actual render of the upcoming phablet. Samsung could nix the right-side buttons in the final product, but that would conflict with the leaked image from earlier this week. Also, it’s highly unlikely that the tweet’s contents were inadvertent or an “accident,” as some media outlets have suggested.

The Galaxy Note 8 is rumored to sport a dual-lens camera setup, a 6.4-inch or larger edge-to-edge OLED, and a Snapdragon 835 processor. Samsung is largely expected to unveil the phablet at a press event sometime in mid-August — falling back to its usual tactic of launching the Note ahead of the iPhone’s announcement.
