Apple has seeded the first beta of iOS 10.3 to developers today. This is just one month after the tech giant rolled out iOS 10.2, and a little over three months since iOS 10.1. The beta update marks the third major update to iOS 10 since Cupertino released the operating system in September of last year.
One of the more significant changes is the addition of a Find My iPhone-type tool to locate lost or misplaced AirPods, MacRumors reported. Considering how small the devices are, this update is a good precaution. It’s not currently clear whether iOS 10.3 will add AirPods to the existing Find My iPhone app, or whether there will be a separate “Find My AirPods” tool.
As far as other confirmed changes go, there’s also a series of incremental improvements to other features. Siri, for example, can now be asked to pay bills, check payment statuses, and schedule a ride-share for later in the day. The Conversation View added to Mail in iOS 10 has gotten some navigation improvements, and the weather button in Maps is now 3D Touch-able, ARS Technica reported.
Additionally, CarPlay’s user interface can now display electric vehicle charging stations, as well as icons for the two most recently used apps. HomeKit has been upgraded with programmable light switch support, and there are some minor, ease-of-use keyboard tweaks for Chinese and Japanese.
On the other hand, some of the changes that the rumor mill churned out — like a Theater Mode in the Control Center draped in a popcorn-shaped icon, and some split-view interface and slide-over app switching improvements for the iPad — seem to be missing from early reports. Currently, they’ve yet to be confirmed in the newest iOS 10 update.
Like other iOS updates, iOS 10.3 will likely also include a number of under-the-hood changes, tweaks, bug fixes and minor performance improvements — although a full log of those improvements and changes isn’t available this early in the operating system’s release.
The iOS 10.3 beta is currently available as an over-the-air download for registered Apple developers, or from the Apple Developer Center.
