What could possibly be better than scoring an unblemished, albeit reconditioned, iPhone, at a fraction of the device’s original retail price? Well, how about an unblemished, reconditioned iPhone, at a fraction of its retail price, and a 1-year Apple warranty to sweeten the pot?
Apple decided earlier this week that it was going to hedge its bets on you and I being swooned by the latter of those two offers, with the commencement of reconditioned, Apple-certified iPhone models officially kicking off via the company’s online retail storefront.
These handsets, which have been professionally re-certified — with a brand new external housing, battery, and display (when necessary), are now being offered for the first time directly through Apple. Best of all, when you purchase one, you’ll also be given the Silicon Valley tech-giant’s stellar 1-year warranty — making the purchase all the more enticing for those looking to pick up a newer iPhone without having to pay the “new iPhone” price.
Currently available for sale are the company’s iPhone 6s and 6s Plus handsets — offered in a variety of the standard colors and pre-iPhone 7 storage capacities, including Gold, Rose Gold, Silver, and Space Gray, in both 16 GB and 64 GB storage sizes. The 16 GB (Unlocked) iPhone 6s, for instance, can now picked up in any of the four color options for $449; while the 16 GB or 64 GB iPhone 6s Plus can be yours $529 or $589, respectively.
Apple-certified Refurbished products are fully reconditioned units, boasting the same quality of “newness” as their mint counterparts. The fact that Apple is now offering some of its latest handsets (sans the iPhone 7, unfortunately) with such deep discounts — covered under warranty, mind you — is a smart move that’s sure to open up the potential for the company to increase its iOS user base, as well as sell out some of its second-hand inventory — potentially undercutting comparable Android and Windows Phone handsets, in some cases, by considerable margins.
Would you take a chance on one of Apple’s refurbished iPhones?
