Apple released a second developer beta of its upcoming iOS 10.2 today, just one week after seeding the first beta version.
Cupertino’s newest operating system update for iPhone, iPad and iPod might not have a single primary feature, but it does include a host of smaller improvements and enhancements. They include a range of new emoji in Unicode 9.0, new wallpapers derived from iPhone 7 marketing material, additional camera updates, and an improved widget for the stock Videos app. There’s also a new Press and Hold to Speak menu in Settings — under the Home Button Accessibility options. Additionally, Apple has included some new Music options, a“Celebration” screen effect for Messages, and a headphone icon in the status bar for Bluetooth devices.
iOS 10.2 beta also includes support for Apple’s Single Sign-On feature, which allows users to access a range of different TV and streaming apps with a single login.
As far as the second iOS 10.2 developer beta released today, it includes Apple’s new TV App that it unveiled at its Oct. 27 event. The app acts as sort of a “TV guide,” helping users find new shows, movies and videos to watch. The Shuffle and Repeat buttons in Music have also been made a bit more prominent when a song is playing.
There also seems to be a new SOS feature built in to iOS 10.2 beta 2. It’s activated when users press the power button five times, and will automatically call emergency services. According to Apple, the feature should currently work in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Japan, Russia, Spain, the UK, and the US. A menu for the new SOS option is now included in Settings > General, MacRumors reported.
iOS 10.2 beta 2 is now available for registered Apple developers as an over-the-air update. A public beta version should follow shortly.
