On Tuesday morning, Apple quietly made available its long-anticipated iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus handsets adorned in a beautiful coat of (PRODUCT)RED paint. And while the devices won’t be going on sale until this coming Friday, March 24th, one lucky YouTuber has managed to get his hands on the red handset slightly ahead of schedule.
In a video posted yesterday courtesy of Marques Brownlee, a totally drool-worthy unboxing of the fiery hot device can be seen and enjoyed by all. Check it out for yourself below.
The handset ships in a white box, similar to other iPhone models before it. However, in addition to the usual slate of manuals, paperwork, stickers, and accessories, the package is ornamented with a red iPhone insignia, red typography, and includes a special (PRODUCT)RED insert — in addition to the insanely gorgeous handset itself, of course.
“Wow, this thing is really red, and really good-looking,” Brownlee proclaims in an apparent first reaction to the device, while adding that it’s as “ridiculously good as you think.” He also calls it the most photogenic iPhone he’s seen in a long time.
Because the handset is not as dark as Apple’s Matte- or Jet-Black iPhone 7 models, according to Brownlee, it isn’t as prone to showing fingerprint smudges around back. He also attested that, in person, the device is darker — almost like a crimson, or satin red, boasting a rather saturated color in what appears to be a softer matte-finish. In other words, it’s not quite the candy apple red that’s so easily discernible from Apple’s official press shots — but rather, more of a richer, full-bodied red.
He also noted that, plastered around back, the Apple logo is of a mirror-like silver hue, which in just the right light, exudes an almost white tone similar to the front of the device — which he’s personally not too fond of, calling it “goofy,” while adding that he believes Apple should have opted for a black front with the red back.
Apple released the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus as a Special Edition PRODUCT(RED) item to commemorate the company’s decade-long partnership with the (RED) charity — a partnership between U2 lead singer Bono and several high-profile tech-companies, who’ve joined forces in their effort to fight AIDS/HIV on a worldwide scale, offering services such as counseling, preventive medicine, and more to countries most heavily impacted by the horrendous disease.
All purchases to Apple’s (PRODUCT)RED merchandise allow customers to directly contribute to the Global Fund established to help fight the spread of AIDS/HIV.
The new (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models will be available to purchase starting this Friday, March 24th, in 128 GB and 256 GB storage capacities. They will be priced at $749/$849 for the iPhone 7, or $869/$969 for the iPhone 7 Plus in over 40 countries around the world.
