Apple Offers Free Beats in Back to School Promotion

Apple on Wednesday launched its 2017 Back to School promotion, offering a free pair of Beats headphones on select Mac or iPad purchases in the U.S. and Canada. The deal is available to students and parents of students, as well as educators and various school staff.

The promotion applies to purchases of most Mac computers with education pricing, which tops out at $300 off Mac models in the U.S. Qualifying purchases include any new iMac, Mac mini, Mac Pro, MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air computer. At checkout, customers can choose between three models of free headphones: the wireless Beats Solo3, BeatsX, or Powerbeats3. As usual, refurbished Mac models aren’t included in the educational promotion.

Additionally, Apple is offering a $20 discount and a free pair of BeatsX wireless headphones with eligible purchases of the 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Customers can opt to get Powerbeats 3 or Beats Solo3 headphones for an additional $50 and $150, respectively. However, Apple’s new iPad and iPad mini 4 don’t qualify for this year’s Back to School deals.

In addition to the discounts and free headphones, Apple is also taking the time to highlight its standard $4.99 student pricing for Apple Music, as well as its Pro Apps Bundle for Education. The latter deal packages industry-standard production apps such as Final Cut Pro X, Logic Pro X, Motion 5, Compressor 4, and MainStage 3 into a bundle priced at $199.99. Interestingly, Apple did not include AirPods in its 2017 promotion, though that’s presumably because of supply issues.

The promotion rolls out today on Apple’s online education store, as well as at Apple Stores and authorized campus retail outlets. It’s currently available in the U.S. and Canada and select other countries, including Singapore and Mexico — though it has yet to launch in Europe. The Back to School promotion starts today and ends Sept. 25, both online and in-store.
