Google Pixel XL 2 to Sport ‘Squeezable’ Body, Thinner Bezels

Google’s upcoming 2017 Pixel XL might sport a new design with minimized bezels and a “squeezable” frame that would allow users to invoke and interact with the Google Assistant, according to a new report.

The information comes from insider sources cited by Android Police, who has a strong track record of accurate information and has placed particular confidence in the new leak. As previously rumored, Android Police indicates that LG will be the primary manufacturer of the device, which is codenamed “Taimen.” The site also mocked up a 3D render of the upcoming Pixel device based on the information they obtained, which you can see below.

As you can see, the site’s sources indicate the Google Pixel XL 2 will have a new design but will retain the look and feel of its predecessor. It’s rumored to pack a non-curved, 6-inch AMOLED display with much smaller bezels than the first phone, as well as the Google Assistant-invoking squeezable body. Other design changes include a larger rear camera setup (though without dual-cameras), “3D glass” on the device’s sides, and no visible antenna bands. Of course, Android Police was quick to point out that the render isn’t the finalized product by any means, and the final device’s design is certainly subject to change.

When it comes to the new Pixel lineup’s internals, the most currently accurate information seems to be a recent XDA leak. Reportedly, the new Pixel XL will feature a Snapdragon 835 processor, 1440p screen resolution, 4GB of RAM, and at least one model with 128GB of internal storage. Additionally, the smaller Pixel 2 — codenamed “Walleye” — will supposedly pack a 5-inch 1080p display. It’s been rumored that the smaller Pixel will lack a 3.5mm headphone jack, so it makes sense that the larger Pixel will as well.
