Most of us are familiar with Tinder. On the other hand, fewer people probably know that the dating platform operates an exclusive, members-only version of its service called Tinder Select.
There’s a reason for its obscurity, however. Tinder Select is reportedly only for the “elite users” of the app, a category which apparently includes CEOs, supermodels, and other affluent and attractive Tinder users, according to TechCrunch, which obtained exclusive photos of Select from anonymous sources. One such person told the publication that the app, which is invite-only, is for “celebrities and people who do really well on Tinder.”
It’s currently unknown how Tinder decides which users to invite, USA Today reported. Though the service’s under-the-hood, Tinder Elo rating algorithm might play a part. Some users who are invited directly by Tinder apparently have the ability to nominate and invite others to Select, though this second group of nominees can’t invite others themselves — perhaps to keep the app from spreading too fast and too wide.
Aesthetically, the app apparently is a bit more cleanly-designed than the vanilla Tinder app, and in place of the iconic flame logo is a simple, non-stylized S. Users who have been nominated for the exclusive platform can “switch” back and forth between regular Tinder and Select, which makes sense as the latter platform undoubtedly draws from a much, much smaller group of people.
Tinder Select has apparently been a thing for at least five or six months now, according to a Reddit user who spotted the Select “S” on their app. This might mean that the dating service isn’t planning on announcing the platform at all — rather, it could point to their plan of keeping it on the down low. Of course, now that the word is out, there’s little chance of it remaining a closely kept secret for much longer.
