After quietly releasing its highly-anticipated, truly wireless AirPods earlier this week, Apple on Thursday morning has updated its website by publishing official warranty information pertinent to the $159, super-advanced cord-free headphones.
Under the same section on Apple’s website where users can find information about pricing for iPhone Service and Repairs, Apple has added a separate section specifically dedicated to repairs and replacements for defective or lost AirPods.
Apple notes in the warranty information that it will cover general service issues — including defective batteries or charging cases — under the terms of Cupertino’s standard One Year Warranty that comes along with every product the company sells. Once the warranty on your AirPods has expired, however, Apple notes that it will also offer battery replacement service for either the AirPods or their high-tech charging case for $49 apiece.
Moreover, in perhaps the first offering of its kind, Apple notes that it will outright replace a (single) lost AirPod or charging case for $69 apiece, respectively, with or without an active warranty. This should come as great news to those who plan on purchasing a pair of AirPods, particularly in light of the public’s understandable concerns over the truly wireless, truly misplace-able nature of Apple’s small but powerful cord-free earbuds.
“If you need service for your AirPods or charging case, there’s no charge if the issue is covered under the Apple One Year Limited Warranty or consumer law,” Apple states within its officially published AirPods warranty document. “Our warranty covers a defective battery, but it doesn’t cover wear from normal use. If the battery capacity on your AirPods or charging case decreases over time, you can replace them for a battery service fee… If your AirPods or charging case gets damaged accidentally, you can pay an out-of-warranty fee. And if you lose an AirPod or your charging case, we can replace your lost item for a fee.”
Apple’s highly anticipated $159 AirPods, which were initially shown on stage at the company’s September 7th iPhone 7 unveiling event, had faced a myriad of delays over the last two months or so — prior to quietly being released for sale via the Cupertino-company’s official website earlier this week. Estimated ship times, however, are now much higher than previously reported, with future orders now going out as late as early February of 2017.
