Apple’s Gleaming Campus 2 Nearing Completion, Leaked Photos Reveal

Apple’s gleaming, spaceship of a Campus 2 is nearing completion, evidenced by a freshly-leaked collection of photos of the construction site published by Mac Generation.

The images reveal that Campus 2 is in its final stages of development, with more than half of its solar panels installed and only one crane remaining on-site. The donut-shaped main campus building is a remarkable confection of stainless-steel, carbon fiber, and glass that clearly invokes our popular perception of the future.

Cupertino has retained the services of Foster + Partners, an architecture firm that decided to eschew the classic iPod white in favor of a black and grey palette. The result is an imposing and monolithic edifice that is, in the architects’ words, meant to “provide a serene environment reflecting Apple’s brand values of innovation, ease of use and beauty.”

The campus will receive its first occupants in 2017, when Apple plans to move its first cohort of employees into Campus 2. The 4-story main building will hold 12,000 employees and comes with a 60,000 square foot dining space as well as a vast inner courtyard that houses an outdoor terrace and orchard.

The campus also will offer a 100,000 square foot fitness center, 11,000 parking spaces, and a 1,000 seat auditorium, which may be where forthcoming product reveals and press events are hosted.

Campus 2 has the goal of achieving “net zero energy”, which according to Architecture Daily means much of its energy requirements will be met with its 700,000 square feet solar panels, and purchases of renewable energy sources.
