Samsung on Thursday morning announced the availability of its latest and greatest attempt to ride the coattails of Apple’s success, in the form of the South Korean tech-giant’s popular Galaxy S7 Edge handset taking on an all-new ‘Black Pearl’ hue — which, you guessed it, looks essentially identical to Apple’s hot new Jet Black iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus offerings.
Available in select markets, albeit only in the 128 GB variant, Sammy’s take on a deep black Galaxy S7 Edge will be available starting today — although the company, for some odd reason, doesn’t specify exactly which markets the device will be available in.
Either way, Samsung alleges that the new color option ‘radiates quality and luxury’ — though we will have to be the judge of that much once we actually see the new color offering in the wild. Much like Apple’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 Edge is already offered in a similarly-toned “Onyx Black” color, which falls closely along the lines of Apple’s matte black iPhone 7.
“Black Pearl was designed to be modern and striking. The sleek black finish blankets the entire device – edges and all – and adds depth to its glass design. The result is a stylish all-black aesthetic that captures the essence of the color in its purest form,” Samsung said of the new device in its official press release.
Well, Samsung is certainly no stranger to copying Apple, but I suppose we will just have to wait and see how this ‘Black Pearl’ color fares with the masses. Last year, in an apparent response to Apple’s Rose Gold iPhone 6s, Samsung introduced a ‘Pink Gold’ variant of its flagship Galaxy S7, just a few months after the device’s initial debut.
