Hidden Videos Reveal Upcoming iOS 11 Features

Earlier this week, iOS developer Guilherme Rambo allegedly discovered “a couple of videos” hidden deep within the latest iOS 11 beta. The videos, both of which can be viewed below, appear to demonstrate certain Control Center and app-switching functionalities that Apple may or may not release in the final public build of iOS 11.

In the first video below, you can see Apple’s redesigned Lock Screen and Notification Center for iPhones on iOS 11, which can be accessed by pulling down the Lock Screen from above and swiping left as shown. What’s unclear is what Apple plans to implement in the final version of iOS 11, however, as current iOS 11 beta builds allow for slightly different swiping functionality.

The second video appears to showcase a new app switcher function, which can be accessed by merely swiping upwards on the Home screen. Though it’s not 100% confirmed, Apple will more than likely debut this or a similar functionality in iOS 11 — especially in light of its high-end iPhone 8 flagship. Most reports peg the iPhone 8 to ship with a massive, edge-to-edge OLED display that will do away with a traditional iPhone Home button in favor of a touch-responsive ‘function area’. The redesigned iPhone 8, which could also be called iPhone Edition or iPhone X, will lack any physical Home button, and so it’s still likely that Apple will enable the functionality shown bel0w in the final build of iOS 11.

Apple showcased some of the many new features coming to iOS 11 earlier this summer at its Worldwide Developers Conference. The final build of iOS 11 will more than likely touch down sometime after Apple’s 2017 iPhone models are unveiled this September. Alongside the revamped iPhones, Apple could also release an updated Apple Watch Series 3, a 4K-capable Apple TV, and more.
