New DirecTV Now Subscribers Will Receive a Free Apple TV

New subscribers to DirecTV Now will receive a fourth-generation Apple TV free of charge, AT&T announced in a blog post on Wednesday.

Specifically, subscribers will need to pre-purchase three months of DirecTV Now service to qualify for the 32-gigabyte Apple TV. It’s worth noting that the deal isn’t available online or through the DirecTV Now app. To qualify, subscribers must sign up for the streaming service at an AT&T retail outlet, an Authorized Retail Store, or by calling AT&T directly. This isn’t the first time that DirecTV Now subscribers had a chance at a free Apple TV, either. AT&T offered a similar promotion when it first launched its DirecTV Now service late last year.

The cheapest DirecTV Now subscription costs about $35 a month and includes more than 60 live and on-demand channels. That means you’ll need to shell out $105 to receive an Apple TV — which is still cheaper than buying the device directly for $149. Other subscription options include a $50-per-month tier for more than 80 channels, a $60 tier for 100+ channels, and a $70 tier for more than 120 channels. Subscribers can also add additional options like HBO and Cinemax streaming for $5 a month each.

Now might be a good time to take advantage of the deal, as the DirecTV Now platform is slated for a major revamp later this year, which will include a cloud-based DVR, an overhauled user interface and a few more channels. Similarly, the Apple TV operating system will be getting an upgrade this fall — which will add Amazon video streaming for the first time.

The deal is pretty straightforward, and there’s not a whole lot of fine print to comb through. If you’d still like to take advantage, the full details of the promotion are available here. Of course, the offer is only available while AT&T’s supply of Apple TVs lasts.
