More and more companies, including Amazon and Disney, have taken to allowing their employees to work remotely full time, and now Apple is no exception. It’s great news for those of you who want to work at a major company without ever leaving the comfort of your own homes.
The iPhone maker recently announced that it is opening applications for a position called “AppleCare at Home Advisor”. It’s a customer service position that largely entails providing technical support, answering questions, and solving product issues. If you’re disciplined enough to work at home, and confident enough to serve as a friendly and professional point of contact for customers with tech support issues, this role may be perfect for you.
According to the job description: “As our customers’ first point of contact, you’ll be the friendly voice of Apple, answering questions about our products and services and providing world-class customer service, troubleshooting, and technical support. We’ll rely on you to listen to our customers and use your technical expertise, creativity, and passion to meet their needs — and remind them that behind our great products are amazing people.”
As for the required background and work experience, Apple is looking for a “minimum 2 years professional technical troubleshooting expertise or proven technical ability” as well as “experience supporting customers via phone, e-mail, chat, and/or in person”. Desired personal characteristics include a “passion for customer service and ownership of the customer experience including comprehensive issue resolution.”
Other than that, all you’ll need is an isolated, distraction-free workspace with a comfy chair, a desk, and a reliable network connection. Apple will even provide an iMac, headset, and training for the role. Throughout, you’ll have the support of a manager and a team of coworkers you can communicate with over video chat. Other benefits include a full benefits package, paid time off, regular mentoring and coaching for career development, and product discounts, of course.
Apple is also offering remote managerial positions for Home Advisors. The Home Team Manager oversees a team of Home Advisors and provides regular coaching and mentoring online. Home Area Managers supervise a group of Home Team Managers, not only making sure they’re doing their jobs but also overseeing their professional development through regular meetings. On top of that, Home Area Managers are expected to provide business-level consulting and delivering results based on Apple’s business requirements.
