Apple on Monday seeded the sixth iOS 11 beta to registered developers, just one week after releasing the previous developer beta. Like previous testing versions of iOS 11, beta 6 introduces a slew of bug fixes, under-the-hood improvements and subtle design tweaks.
Changes Made in iOS 11 Dev. Beta 6
- iOS 11 beta 6 introduces a fix for audio cessation when opening the App Store and a bug that caused the DirecTV app to crash when launched.
- There are also bug fixes for Notes and Family Sharing, including an issue that prevented the Apple Pencil to be used on the former app.
- Additionally, phone numbers will be displayed properly during a conference call.
- There’s now a new icon for Maps and the App Store, including a new app tray icon in Messages for the latter app.
- The Reminders icon now has its bullet points back on the left side rather than the right.
- iOS 11 beta 6 also adds a new splash page for the Photos app, slightly bolder numbers in Clock, and a new AirPod animation.
- The AirPlay indicator bar is also solidly blue when in use.
- The Auto-Brightness toggle has been moved from Display & Brightness to Accessibility > Display Accommodations in the Settings app.
Despite the bug fixes, iOS 11 beta 6 also introduces some new known issues. Chief among them is a bug that will cause the Audiobus 3 app to crash upon launch. If you purchased an AT&T data plan on an iPad, there’s also a Settings bug that prevents cellular data numbers updating in General > About. The beta also removes several fish-themed Live wallpapers from the operating system.
iOS 11 beta 6 is currently available to developers via an over-the-air update provided that the proper configuration profile is installed on a device. Alternatively, the update is available from the Apple Developer portal. Presumably, the sixth developer beta will coincide with the fifth public testing beta, which is likely to be released sometime this week.
